Assault at the Toronto Archery Range

July 27th, 2016.

Please follow all the safety rules at the Toronto Archery Range. Earlier today a regular at the archery range witnessed a compound shooter ignoring one of the rules (not shooting from the shooting line) and when the compound shooter ignored him, he proceeded to take photographs and a video of the archer not following the rules. This led to a confrontation during which the compound shooter assaulted the regular and stabbed him in the hand with an arrow during a scuffle.

Here is a photo of the compound shooter in question. If you see this man and know who he is, there is a Toronto by-law officer who has a $4,000 fine for him.

Now ignoring the fact that it is assault with a deadly weapon, lets go back to the idea of FOLLOW THE SAFETY RULES.

This entire incident could have been avoided if the compound shooter in question had simply followed the rules of the range.

The list of Safety Rules for the Toronto Archery Range are not just "rules". They are embedded in Toronto by-laws. Not following them is a $4,000 fine and possible prison time.

A complete list of the rules are online, available at http://www.archerytoronto.ca/Archery-Rules-Etiquette.html and the rules are posted on sign posts at both entrances. People entering the archery range effectively agree to follow those rules by entering and using the archery range. Not following them means fellow archers are going to get upset if people are not following the safety rules and putting the lives of others in danger + setting a bad standard for other archers who don't necessarily know the rules.

On occasion archers have also been known to call the police via 911 or the local by-law officer via 311 when they see a serious offender. Depending on the nature of the offense, criminal or an emergency = 911, by-law = 311. In the above case, both could and probably should have been called.

The video below shows the compound shooter shooting way behind the firing line. The video was taken only a few minutes before he assaulted the cameraman and stabbed him in the hand with an arrow during the scuffle.
